Sadaqah Fitr/Fitrah

1. Sadaqah Fitr (Fitrah) on the Day of Eid is waajib upon a person who is obligated to give Zakaat.
2. Sadaqah Fitr (Fitrah) is also waajib upon a person who may not be obligated to give Zakaat, however he/she is in possession of surplus wealth and belongings to the value of the amount upon which Zakaat is waajib.
3. It does not matter whether the surplus wealth and belongings mentioned in (2) above are for business purposes or not.
4. Similarly, it does not matter whether this wealth was with one for a year or less than a year, unlike Zakaat where Zakaat only becomes waajib when a year has passed over the Zakaat assets.
5. Sadaqah Fitr is commonly referred to as Fitrah.
