The Sister of Hazrat Musa (Alaihis Salaam)

Some have given her name as Maryam. Some have said that it was Kulthoom.

When the mother of Musa (Alaihis Salaam) placed him in the river, she told the sister to see what happens to him. The box (in which Musa, Alaihis Salaam, was) reached the palace of Fir’oun. They drew the box out of the river and found a beautiful baby inside it.

Fir’oun wanted to kill the baby, however the wife of Fir’oun, who was a pious and Allah-fearing lady, pleaded for him to be left alive. Both then took the baby as their child.

Now Musa was not drinking the milk of any wet nurse. Everyone was perplexed as to what to do. At this juncture that girl, that is the sister of Musa (Alaihis Salaam) who was following him appeared and said: “Must I inform you of a wetnurse who is very loving and caring. Her milk is also wholesome.” She then informed them of the lady (who was in fact the mother of Musa Alaihis Salaam).

She was called and Musa was handed over to her. In this manner the Promise of Allah Ta’ala of returning the child to her materialized.

2. See how she followed her brother and dutifully listened to her mother!
3. She accomplished all this in such a manner that the enemy did not even find out.
4. Ladies! Listening to one’s parents and using one’s intelligence are great blessings.
