Once during the early struggle with the mushrikeen, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) had to battle with the tribe of Bani Sa’d. They were defeated and many of them were taken prisoner. Among them was the daughter of Halimah Sa’diyyah, the wet-nurse of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). After hearing her story, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was in tears and reflecting on the past, he freed her and gave her many gifts. When she would visit Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) he would prepare a special seat for her and treat her with respect and honour.

Rasulullah’s (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) kindness, generosity, love, respect and honour for mothers and women as a whole is a wonderful example that each and everyone of us can follow in order to build a better society for us.
