Masaail Regarding Jewellery
Reading Time: 2 minutes
- It is permissible for women to wear jewellery, but it is best not to wear too much. Whoever does not wear a lot in this world will get plenty in the Hereafter.
- It is not permissible to wear tinkling jewellery, even for small girls. Once a woman came to Hazrat Aisha (Radhiyallahu anha) and with her was her daughter who was wearing tinkling jewellery. Hazrat Aisha said to the woman: “Do not bring the girl by me unless she has removed that jewellery. I heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) saying that angels do not enter a house in which there are bells.”
- It is permissible to wear jewellery made of material other than gold and silver, but it is not permissible to wear rings made of anything other than gold or silver. It is permissible for men to wear silver rings only, not gold.
- Those things that are not permissible for men to wear are also not permissible for na-baligh boys. it is haraam for boys to wear silk clothing and earrings.
- It is haraam to use gold or silver dishes or to eat or drink from gold or silver utensils.
- It is not permissible to keep or use surmah or oil from a gold or silver container. This rule applies to both men and women.
- It is a major sin to wear jewellery for the purpose of showing off one’s high status. Many women devise plans for displaying their jewellery, like saying that it is too hot and then taking off the scarf to show off the necklace and earrings. If no one asks about it then they make comments about the price of the items or the unusualness of the design. This is a major sin.
- In a Hadeeth Shareef, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Can you not live with silver jewellery? The woman who wears gold jewellery for show will be punished for it.” May Allah protect us all.
