About Tahneek

Hadhrat Hakimul Ummat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (Rahmatullahi alaih) said:

“Someone enquired from Hadhrat Maulana Gangohi (Rahmatullahi alaih) regarding the Tahneek (i.e. chewing something and placing it in the mouth of a baby when it has been born). Maulana Gangohi advised that some pious Aalim who is a follower of the Sunnah happens to be present then the Tahneek will be Masnoon (Sunnat). There is no benefit in making the baby lick the saliva of a bid’ati (one who practices innovation).”
