Contentment Through the Qur’aan
It is reported from Hazrat Hasan Basri (Rahmatullahi alaih) that a person would come often to the door of Hazrat Umar, Radhiyallahu anhu, (for his needs of the dunya). Hazrat Umar (Radhiyallahu anhu) told that man: “Go and read the Kitaab of Allah (that is the Qur’aan Majeed).”
The man went away and Hazrat Umar did not see him for some time. Then one day Hazrat Umar (Radhiyallahu anhu) met him and expressed his disappointment. (In other words, Hazrat Umar complained to him about him not informing about the reason for his absence. When someone comes often and then suddenly disappears, it creates concern about his wellbeing.)
He replied: “I found in the Kitaab of Allah that which makes me independent and unconcerned of the door of Umar.”
In other words, “I found such an Aayaat which makes me independent of creation, and my trust is now in Allah Ta’ala. I used to come to you for my mundane needs, now what am I going to do by you.”
Perhaps he was referring to Aayaat which have as their content something which is mentioned as in this Aayat: “In the Heavens is your sustenance and what you have been promised, (is also in the Heavens).”
In other words, “Your sustenance and all the arrangements for all your matters is by Our Court. Now why should you turn to others!?”
