Particulars of When Marital Expenses Start

1. The newly wed wife can claim expenses even though she has not yet departed for the husband’s home.
2. However, if the husband wants her to come to his home but she is not taken to his home, then she is not entitled to expenses.
3. If it is customary for a portion of the mahr to be given initially and the rest later, now the wife refuses to go to the husband’s home because she has not received the initial mahr, she still must be given expenses.
4. If she has no valid Shar’i reason for not going to the husband’s home then she is not entitled to expenses.
5. When she departs for the marital home then she will have to be given expenses.
