The Request of the Wives of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) for an Increase in Maintenance (Part Two)

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) would always make this Du’aa:

“O Allah!

Make the sustenance of the Household of Muhammad just that much as to survive.”

In short, abundance of wealth was against the nature of Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). For this reason, he felt bad at the request of his wives. The following Aayat was then revealed:

“O Nabi! Tell your wives: ‘If you want the life of this world and its glamour, then, come I will provide you and set you free in a beautiful manner. And if you want Allah, His Rasool and the Hereafter, then indeed, Allah has prepared for those women who do good among you, a grand reward.”

In other words: If you want the dunya, then you cannot stay with me. In this case, you can come, and I will give you worldly provisions and leave you in a nice way. And if you desire Allah, His Rasool and the Aakhirat, then endure with patience and gratitude this discomfort, and strive to render good deeds. Allah Ta’ala has prepared for those who do good among you a great reward.
