What to Do When the Moon for Ramadhaan is not Sighted Due to Overcast Conditions
Reading Time: < 1 minute
- Due to overcast conditions the moon was not sighted after the 29th day of Sha’baan. Now do not keep even a Nafl fast in the morning.
- Yes, if one has a practice of fasting on Mondays or Thursdays or any particular day, and coincidentally the next day was that particular day, then it will be good to fast the next day with the Nafl intention.
- Thereafter if news comes that the moon was sighted somewhere and the month of Ramadhaan is confirmed, then that Nafl fast will be transformed to the Fardh of Ramadhaan.
- There will be no Qadha for that fast in spite of fasting it with the Nafl intention.
- If due to overcast conditions the moon is not sighted at the end of the 29th day of Sha’baan then do not eat or drink anything the next day till an hour before Zawaal (that is, precise midday. See Article: https://khairunnisa.co.za/2025/01/21/intention-to-fast-before-half-the-day-is-over/)
- If news comes of the sighting of the moon, then make intention of fasting.
- And if no news is forthcoming of the moon having been sighted then in this case eat and drink.
