The Fitnah of So-Called ‘Islamic Scholars’ Luring Women Out of their Homes for Bayaans

Beware of the So-Called ‘Scholars’ Who Lure Women Into the Public Domain Under the Guise of ‘Islamic Talks’

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

All praise is due to Allāh, the Lord of the Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon the noblest of Prophets, Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), his family, and his companions.

The Grave Misguidance of ‘Scholars’ Who Promote Free-Mixing and Public Exposure of Women

It is with deep concern and a heavy heart that we address a growing evil in our times—the emergence of self-proclaimed ‘scholars’ and ‘speakers’ who invite women to public lectures, conferences, and mixed gatherings under the deceptive banner of ‘Islamic education.’ These individuals, who claim to be guiding the Ummah, are in reality paving the way for fitnah (temptation) and even zina (fornication) by violating the clear commandments of the Qur’ān and Sunnah.

The Qur’ān and Sunnah Command Modesty and Segregation

Allāh (Subḥānahu wa Ta’ālā) says:

“And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance…” (Surah Al-Aḥzāb 33:33)

This verse was specifically directed to the wives of the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), yet its ruling extends to all Muslim women, as the Mothers of the Believers are our role models in chastity and modesty.

The Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) also warned:

“I have not left behind me any fitnah more harmful to men than women.” (Bukhārī 5096)

Yet, these so-called ‘scholars’ ignore these divine injunctions and instead encourage women to leave their homes, sit in mixed gatherings, and engage in unnecessary public speeches—actions that directly contradict the teachings of Islam.

Free-Mixing is a Path to Zina

The Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said:

“No man is alone with a woman except that Shayṭān is the third.” (Tirmithī 2165)

Despite this clear warning, these misguided speakers organize events where men and women sit together, intermingle, and even engage in discussions—all under the false pretence of ‘Islamic learning.’ Do they not fear Allāh? Do they not realize that every glance, every unnecessary interaction, and every moment of free-mixing is a step towards sin?

Women’s Role in Da’wah is Not Public Free-Mixing

Some may argue that women have a role in da’wah—and indeed they do—but not in a manner that violates the principles of Ḥijāb and segregation. The female companions (Radiyallahu ‘anhunna) taught other women in their homes or in designated women-only spaces, not in public halls filled with non-mahram men.

A Warning to Those Who Facilitate This Evil

To the men who call women to these gatherings, Allāh says:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا

“O you who believe! Protect yourselves and your families from a Fire…” (Surah At-Taḥrīm 66:6)

How can you claim to be protecting Muslim women while pulling them into environments where their modesty is compromised? How can you call yourselves scholars while facilitating the very sins Islam came to prevent?

A Call to Righteousness

We call upon these individuals to fear Allāh and abandon this dangerous path. Muslim women should seek knowledge from female teachers in appropriate settings, and men must uphold their responsibility as guardians, not as promoters of fitnah.

Let us return to the pure teachings of Islam—not the diluted, modernized versions that please the nafs (desires) and the enemies of this Ummah.

“And Allāh prevails in His purpose, but most people do not know.” (Surah Yūsuf 12:21)

May Allāh guide us all to the straight path and protect our Ummah from those who distort the religion under the guise of knowledge. Āmīn.

The Fraudulent Misuse of a Ḥadīth to Justify Free Exposure of Women

Some self-proclaimed ‘scholars’ deceitfully cite the ḥadīth in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (101)—where the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) allocated a specific day to teach women—to justify their corrupt practice of gathering women in public halls, addressing them directly without proper Ḥijāb or a screen, and staring at their exposed faces.

This is a blatant distortion of the Sunnah and a shameful exploitation of Islamic texts to legitimize what is clearly forbidden.

The Actual Sunnah: Complete Segregation and Modesty

When the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) taught women, it was in a completely segregated setting, not in open halls where a male speaker could freely gaze at them. More importantly, the female companions (Radiyallahu ‘anhunna) were not in a state of tabarruj (displaying beauty)—they observed full Ḥijāb, covering their faces in the presence of non-mahram men when necessary.

So where do these ‘scholars’ get the audacity to stand and sit face-to-face with women, many of whom are uncovered or improperly dressed, while claiming to follow the Sunnah?

The Danger of a Man Directly Addressing Non-Mahram Women

Allāh says:

“Do not speak softly [to men] lest the one in whose heart is disease should aspire [with desire]…” (Surah Al-Aḥzāb 33:32)

If women are commanded to lower their voices so as not to incite desire, then what about men who freely look at women, speak to them without barriers, and create an environment where fitnah is inevitable?

The Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “The eyes commit zina, and their zina is the look.” (Bukhārī 6612)

Yet these ‘scholars’ shamelessly stand in front of women, looking at them, sometimes even joking and interacting casually—all while claiming it is ‘Islamic education.’ Is this not the zina of the eyes?

Their Lame Excuse: “No Men Are Present”

They argue: “There is no free-mixing because no unrelated men are present.”

This is a weak and deceptive argument because:

  1. The male speaker himself is a non-mahram. His presence alone requires full Ḥijāb and a barrier between him and the women.
  2. Many of these gatherings have male organizers, cameramen, or security present—making their claim of ‘no men’ a blatant lie.
  3. Even if no other men are present, the speaker is still a non-mahram, and Islam mandates modesty and prevention of fitnah in all circumstances.

The True Islamic Way: Female Teachers Behind Screens

If these ‘scholars’ truly cared about women’s education, they would:

  • Appoint knowledgeable female teachers to address women, as was the practice of the Salaf.
  • Use audio-only transmissions if a male scholar must advise women, ensuring no direct exposure.
  • Enforce strict Ḥijāb and physical barriers if a male must address women (as the Prophet did).

Instead, they choose the easiest path—the path of fitnah—because it attracts larger crowds, fame, and money.

A Final Warning to These Hypocrites

Allāh warns:

“They [think to] deceive Allāh and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:9)

To the women who attend these gatherings: Fear Allāh! Do not be fooled by sweet words and emotional speeches. Your modesty is more precious than any lecture. Seek knowledge from female teachers in a proper Islamic environment.

To the men promoting this evil: Repent before it is too late. You are not scholars—you are traders of religion, selling the honour of Muslim women for worldly gain.

May Allāh protect the Ummah from these wolves in sheep’s clothing and guide us all to the true, pure teachings of Islam. Āmīn.
