The Good-Fortune of Hazrat Halimah Sa’diyyah (Radhiyallahu Anha)

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A few days after the birth of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), the women of Bani Sa’d came to Makkah to fetch the babies. Halimah Sa’diyyah (Radhiyallahu anha) was amongst them.

All the women took the children of the well-to-do families in hopes of being paid well, and no one took the orphan child (Muhammad Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) who had not even seen his father. The father of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) had passed away before he was even born. All said that how could they take such a child who had no father, whilst his mother was poor, and she could not give anything even if she wished to. They did not know that this child was the greatest Rasool of Allah and His Beloved; a child who would benefit them in this world in a way that no one else would.

The taqdeer of Halimah (Radhiyallahu anha) was good, and it was fortunate that she could not find another child to take. Allah kept this honour and fortune for her alone.

She consulted her husband saying, “I do not want to return empty-handed, however, I am hesitant in taking an orphan. There is only that one orphan child left, who is the grandson of Abdul Muttalib. Although this baby is an orphan, the status of his grandfather who is the leader of the Quraish is no secret.”

Her husband said: “Take him, what harm is there in it? We do not know, maybe Allah has placed goodness in it.”

Halimah (Radhiyallahu anha) had liked this child from the beginning and wanted to take him. She just wanted a little support which the words of her husband provided. And so, she took Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam).
