The Children of Hazrat Halimah (Radhiyallahu Anha)

Halimah (Radhiyallahu anha) also had children of her own; two daughters whose names were Unaisah and Huthaaqah who is called Shaima, and one son whose name was Abdullah. These three were the milk brother and sisters of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam).

Abdullah was fed along with Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), whilst Shaima was quite older than Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and she would sometimes carry and play with him.

Once, the Muslim army during battle, captured a large number of people from the Bani Hawaazin. Shaima was among them. She said to them: “Take me to your Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), I am his sister.”

When she was brought to Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), she mentioned certain things through which Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) recognised her and, remembering his childhood and those who served him at that time, his eyes filled with tears, and he said to Shaima: “If you wish to live with us then you will live with us with great honour and comfort. And if you wish to return to your home then we will return you.”

She preferred to return home, and Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) gave her three slaves, a slave-girl and some camels and goats. She accepted Islam and returned.

Allahu Akbar! Allah Ta’ala endowed in Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) all virtues. Apart from good character, consideration and loyalty to those who served him before were part and parcel of his nature despite his lofty status.
