The Wife of Hazrat Ayyoob (Alaihimas Salaam)

Reading Time: < 1 minute
  • Her name was Rahmat.
  • When the entire body of Hazrat Ayyoob (Alaihis Salaam) was afflicted with sores, and everyone dissociated from him, this noble lady remained with him serving him.
  • In looking after him she underwent all sorts of difficulties.
  • One day, she was delayed in coming to him.
  • In anger, Hazrat Ayyoob took an oath (qasam): “When I get better, I am going to cane you a hundred times.
  • When he recovered then he intended fulfilling his oath.
  • Allah Ta’ala, out of His Mercy, revealed a simple instruction to him: “Take a broom which has 100 reeds and strike with that.”

Lessons

  1. Take a look at how patient and devoted she was.
  2. In such trying times too, she continued to serve her husband.
  3. The oath of Hazrat Ayyoob (Alaihis Salaam) in his suffering evinces that he became somewhat sensitive in that state.
  4. His wife bore this too.
  5. By virtue of this khidmat and sabr for the sake of her husband, Allah Ta’ala saved her from a caning.
  6. This shows that she was very dear to Allah Ta’ala.
  7. Allah Ta’ala revealed a light form of expiation of the oath.
  8. This is not the mas-alah now, however.
  9. If someone takes such an oath then it will not be fulfilled by striking with a broom.
  10. The oath will have to be broken and Kaffaarah for the oath will have to be given.
  11. Ladies! Be obedient to your husbands and bear their sensitivities. In this way, you too will become the Beloved of Allah Ta’ala.
