Half of Imaan

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Cleanliness is half of Imaan.” (Muslim – Mishkaat)

Notes

  1. This Hadeeth reveals the exceptionally great position and virtue of cleanliness and purity.
  2. It shows the position of Tahaarat in Islam.
  3. The reason for affirming Tahaarat to be half of Imaan is that with Imaan all sins, major and minor, are forgiven, whilst by virtue of wudhu minor sins are forgiven.
  4. Hence, Tahaarat is equivalent to half of Imaan.
