Nikaah Proposal and Acceptance
As Hazrat Khadijah was a very understanding and intelligent woman, hearing and seeing all about Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) she developed a deep respect and intimate care for him. She therefore resolved to send a marriage proposal to Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam).
She sent a woman by the name of Nafisah, who was the sister of the Sahaabi, Ya’la Bin Umayyah, to talk to Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) about marriage. Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) replied that as he did not have any material possessions and wealth, he had no intention of marriage for the present.
Nafisah asked how it would be if Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) married in such a home where there was no need for him to have any wealth, as there was wealth together with tribal honour and respect?
Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) replied that where is there such an opportunity. Nafisah then said that Hazrat Khadijah (Radhiyallahu anha) wished to marry him due to his beautiful character, pure traits and honour. And apart from that, she and Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) were distantly related.
Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) accepted this without hesitation and told his uncles about it. All were happy with this.
As the father of Hazrat Khadijah (Radhiyallahu anha) had already passed away, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) together with his uncle Hazrat Hamzah (Radhiyallahu anhu) went, according to the custom, to her uncle, Amr Bin Asad to propose marriage.
Who in Makkah did not know of the high stages of honour of the tribe of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and of his wholesome character? The uncle of Hazrat Khadijah accepted the proposal.
