The Cupper and Cupping

In a Hadeeth which appears in Tirmithi, it is reported from Hazrat Ibn Abbaas (Radhiyallahu anhuma) that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “The cupper is a very good person. He removes blood, lightens the spine and makes the eyes sparkle.”

Hazrat Ibn Abbaas (Radhiyallahu anhu) furthermore says: “When Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was taken up [on Mi’raaj], whichever group of Malaaikah he passed by, they would say, ‘Make incumbent upon yourself cupping.”

In Hazrat Ibn Mas’ood’s narration the wording is as follows: “Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) gave an account of the night he was taken on a journey (Lailatul Isra) that whichever group of Malaaikah he passed by, they instructed him: “Instruct your Ummah with cupping.”
