Shedding Negligence

We now proceed to write the wisdom of wudhu from Verses of the Qur’aan, Prophetic Traditions and from books on physiology in summarized form.

Let it be clear that wudhu alerts one to leave outward and inwards sins and negligence.

Had Namaaz (Salaat) been ordained without wudhu then a person would have remained absorbed in the veil of negligence and would have commenced Namaaz in a state of heedlessness. He would have been like a drunken person and lost in mundane concerns and in thoughts of worldly occupations.

Therefore, to sober him up from this intoxication of negligence wudhu was ordained in the Shariah. Now, with him awake and in his senses, he can stand with awareness and presence of mind before Allah.
