Maariyah Qibtiyyah (Radhiyallahu Anha)

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The youngest child of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was Ibraahim, and he wasn’t from among the children of Hazrat Khadijah. He was born from Hazrat Maariyah Qibtiyyah in Madinah during the eighth year of Hijrat.

Maariyah was the slave girl of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). In view of her nationality being Coptic she is known as Maariyah Qibtiyyah. The ruler of Iskandariyyah (Alexandria – Egypt) by the name of Muqawqis sent her as well as her sister, Seereen and a male slave, a mule, a camel and a large amount of gold to Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) as gifts.

Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) gave Maariyah’s sister, Seereen to Hazrat Hassaan (Radhiyallahu anhu) the famous poet among the Sahaabah, and he kept Maariyah for himself. She gave birth to Ibraahim (Radhiyallahu anhu).

Hazrat Maariyah lived a further six years after the demise of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). She passed away during the Khilaafat of Hazrat Umar (Radhiyallahu anhu) in 16 Hijri.

Hazrat Umar (Radhiyallahu anhu) personally went around calling people for her Janaazah.

Allah! Allah! How much appreciation the illustrious Sahaabah had for Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) in their hearts! They went out of their way for the Janaazah of even the slave girl of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam)!
