Reading Time: < 1 minuteWhen Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was informed of Ibrahim’s illness, he reached there when the child was gasping for breath, and his soul was about to leave for Jannat. Tears filled the eyes of Rahmatul Lil Aalameen (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam).
People present were surprised and asked: “Yaa Rasulallah! You too shed tears?” Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) replied: “There is no harm in shedding tears from the pain in the heart. This is the mercy of Allah. Yes, to tear one’s clothing and to scream are from Shaitaan.”
The death of Hazrat Ibraahim (Radhiyallahu anhu) took place in the tenth year of Hijrat in the month of Rabiul Awwal. He was sixteen months old. With profound grief and anguish, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) buried him in Baqee’ and sprinkled water on his grave.
(Baqee’ is the name of the Qabristaan of Madinah in which Hazrat Uthmaan Bin Math’oon was the first to be buried and Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) placed a stone by his grave as a sign. Hazrat Uthmaan Bin Affaan, Hazrat Aishah, Hazrat Faatimah and innumerable other Sahaabah are buried there. May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with all of them.)
Coincidentally, an eclipse of the sun took place on the day Hazrat Ibraahim (Radhiyallahu anhu) passed away, and people began saying that the sun had eclipsed on account of Hazrat Ibraahim’s death. To dispel this false belief, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “An eclipse does not have anything to do with the birth or death of anyone. It is among the Signs of Allah with which he puts fear into His servants”, in that he can take away the light of such a huge and bright thing.
