The Second Wife of Hazrat Isma’eel (Alaihis Salaam)

  • Prior to constructing the Ka’bah Shareef, Hazrat Ibraheem (Alaihis Salaam) came twice to Makkah.
  • On both occasions Hazrat Isma’eel (Alaihis Salaam) was not at home.
  • Hazrat Ibraheem was not instructed to stay for long.
  • On the first occasion when he came, he asked the wife of Isma’eel (Alaihis Salaam): “How is everything?”
  • She replied: “We are in much difficulty.”
  • Hazrat Ibraheem (Alaihis Salaam) said: “When your husband comes, convey to him my Salaam and tell him to change the door of his home.”
  • When Hazrat Isma’eel returned he learnt of his father’s visit.
  • He told his wife: “That was my father and you are the door. He has instructed me to leave you.”
  • He gave her talaaq and married someone else.
  • When Hazrat Ibraheem (Alahis Salaam) came again then only the new wife was at home.
  • She was very hospitable to him.
  • He asked her how was their living condition.
  • She replied: “Shukr unto Allah, we are living comfortably.”
  • Hazrat Ibraheem (Alaihis Salaam) made Du’aa and said: “When your husband returns home, convey to him my Salaam and tell him to keep his door.”
  • When Hazrat Isma’eel (Alaihis Salaam) came back, he learnt of a visitor coming.
  • He said to his wife: “That was my father, and he conveyed to me to keep you.”

Lessons

  1. Look at the fruits of ingratitude which the first wife received.
  2. A Nabi became angry with her and another Nabi separated from her.
  3. And consider the fruits which the second wife received for her Sabr and Shukr.
  4. One Nabi made Du’aa for her, and she was conferred with remaining in the khidmat of another Nabi.
  5. Ladies! Never be ungrateful.
  6. Live with Sabr and Shukr (patience and gratitude).
