The Shar’i Fast

Reading Time: < 1 minute
  1. Fasting (Saum/Roza) in the Shariah is to abstain from eating, drinking and having intimacy with the husband from the time Fajr starts till the sun has set.
  2. It is not necessary to make a verbal intention of fasting and say anything with the tongue.
  3. If you had in your mind to fast the day, and you did not eat, drink and have intimacy, then your fast is valid.
  4. If you say with the tongue, “O Allah! I am going to fast today,” or you said in Arabic, “بِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَوَيْتُ” then too, there is no harm. This is also good.
