The Shar’i Fast
Reading Time: < 1 minute
- Fasting (Saum/Roza) in the Shariah is to abstain from eating, drinking and having intimacy with the husband from the time Fajr starts till the sun has set.
- It is not necessary to make a verbal intention of fasting and say anything with the tongue.
- If you had in your mind to fast the day, and you did not eat, drink and have intimacy, then your fast is valid.
- If you say with the tongue, “O Allah! I am going to fast today,” or you said in Arabic, “بِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَوَيْتُ” then too, there is no harm. This is also good.
