Expressing the Name of the Bride and Her Father
Reading Time: < 1 minute
- If a nikaah was performed with the girl present and the father or wali indicates to the girl telling the boy: “I have married her to you,” upon which the boy accepted, the nikaah is done.
- In the above case it is not necessary to take her name. The indication suffices.
- If the bride is not present then her name as well as the father’s name should be taken.
- The names should be said out audible enough for the witnesses to hear.
- If the father is not known and merely by taking the bride’s and father’s name it is not understood whose nikaah is being performed then the grandfather’s name should also be taken.
- In short, the identification of the bride should be made known in such a manner that the listeners understand who is being married.
