Bid’at or Bid’ah literally means innovation.

Its plural is Bid’aat.

In the Shariah, Bid’ah is something which has no basis whatsoever in the Shariah and it is done thinking that it is an act of Deen and rewardable.

To do acts of Bid’at is sinful.

There are hundreds of such acts.
