Every One of You Will Be Questioned About His or Her Flock (Part Five)
Neglect of Women in Fulfilling the Rights of Their Husbands
There are two aspects in which women are neglectful in regard to the rights of their husbands.
The one neglect is in rights pertaining to mundane affairs. Germane to this, some women are complacent in the obedience and service to their husbands.
Some women leave the husband’s work to the maids. They are not particular about the husband’s work.
Some women demand excess expenses from the husband. One woman even says, “I am like Jahannam. Just as Jahannam’s stomach is never filled; it calls out all the time, ‘Is there more; is there more,’ so too does my stomach never get filled with money, jewellery, and household things. Whatever I get, I spend it out.”
Women are never satiated no matter how much jewellery, garments, and kitchenware they have. They will always say that they have a little, “What do I have; I got nothing!”
They have an acute degree of ingratitude in them. This trait of women has been mentioned in the Hadeeth.
Once, Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) addressed women and said:
تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيْرَ
“You curse a lot, and you are ungrateful to your husbands.”
In one Hadeeth it comes that if you are kind and good to a woman your entire life, but then something goes against her liking, she will say bluntly:
مَا رَاَيْتُ مِنْكَ خَيْرًا قَطُّ
“I have never seen you being good to me.”
She will forget a lifetime of beneficence in a minute.
