اُحِلَّ لَكُمْ لَيْلَةَ الصِّيَامِ الرَّفَثُ اِلىٰ نِسَآئِكُمْ

Surah Baqarah, Aayat 187

“Intimacy with your wives during the night of fasting has been made lawful.”

In the initial stage of Islam, the law was that after falling asleep once, then eating, drinking and going to the wife became haraam. Some Sahaabah lapsed in this ruling. In remorse they informed Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Allah Ta’ala showed mercy over their remorse and repentance by abrogating the ruling.

(Bayaanul Qur’aan)

[The Aayat abrogated the previous law, and it then became permissible to eat, drink and have intimacy with the wife at any time during the nights of Ramadhaan.]
