Hazrat Khadijah’s Support and Protection of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
Now that time had come when Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) began spreading the Message of Allah. He started telling the people of Arabia to stop worshipping the idols they had worshipped for hundreds of years, and say instead, وَحْدَه لَا شَرِيْكَ لَه (He is One and Alone. He has no partner). He wanted to rescue them from kufr.
This made the people hostile towards Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), and they hatched a variety of plans to make things difficult for him and hurt him in many ways. But Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was engaged in spreading the word of truth with great steadfastness. It is no small matter for the entire nation, the entire city, and one’s own dear relatives to be against one.
During this time of hardship, it was the uncle of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), Abu Taalib, and Hazrat Khadijah (Radhiyallahu anha) who supported him openly.
Abu Taalib was greatly respected by the people as he was a chief and an elder of the Quraish, hence many a time they would not carry out their plans of persecuting Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) out of fear for Abu Taalib.
The masses are greatly affected by a person who is connected to an influential and wealthy person who possesses nobility and honour.
Hazrat Khadijah (Radhiyallahu anha) also endured many difficulties and protected Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) to the best of her ability.
Abu Taalib, the uncle of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) knew that the words of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) were the truth. He knew in his heart that whatever Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said was true. But he was hesitant to embrace Islam as the people would say that such an intelligent chief listens to the words of a young person.
Like it has just been said, he had no reservation in fully supporting Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and being affectionate and compassionate towards him. He was seen as a great supporter and guardian of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). The awe and dignity he commanded, together with the honour and status of Hazrat Khadijah, served as a great protection for Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) from his enemies persecuting him.
