Three Talaaqs in One Sitting
Ahadeeth of the most authentic sources, emphatically reveal the solid effectiveness of Three Talaaqs pronounced in one sitting and in one breath. It should, however, not be ignorantly misconstrued to imply or rudely suggested that such Talaaqs are encouraged. In fact, they are admittedly discouraged. But discouraged and un-disciplinary actions, however illegal in the eyes of the law or immoral according to the tenets of Religion, should not necessarily mean that they go unnoticed, and their resultant effects dismissed and ignored completely.
Divorce itself is no healthy procedure nor is it an encouraged issue. In fact, it is the most hated action in the Sight of Allah. Yet, despite the fact that divorce is wholly an unholy and undignified act, who can deny its recognition in Islam? Can Allah and His religion be jeered and ridiculed because they vehemently abhor divorce and yet permit it?
Likewise, is the issue of Three Talaaqs in one sitting. An honest and skilful study of the entire stock of formidable material in this respect will enlighten any thinking person of its effectiveness and validity.
By validating the Three Talaaqs, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) did not encourage three talaaqs in one sitting nor their desired pronouncement during a woman’s menstrual period or pregnancy. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) merely reflected the consequence and thorough effectiveness of such a measure. In no way can this be alleged to be an abrogation of the Qur’aanic procedure of Divorce, nor an intrusive innovation. Such a contention is not consistent with the Divine injunction of the Qur’aan.
