The Wife of Hazrat Zakariyya (Alaihimas Salaam)

  • Her name is Eashaa’.
  • She is the sister of Hazrat Hannah (the mother of Hazrat Mayam).
  • She is, therefore, the Khaalah (maternal aunt) of Hazrat Maryam (Alaihas Salaam).
  • About her, Allah Ta’ala says: “We made the wife of Zakariyya good for him.”
  • The purport of this as explained by some Ulama is that Allah Ta’ala made her ways good.
  • Nabi Yahya (Alaihis Salaam) was born to her in her old age.
  • Hazrat Isaa (Alaihis Salaam) is thus related to Hazrat Yahya as being the grandchild of Hazrat Yahya’s aunty.
  • A grandchild is taken like own’s child.
  • Hence, our Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) called the one the nephew of the other.
