The most disgraced of wrongdoers, the lover of repenters [that is the author] submits out of necessity to his fellow Muslims that it is proven by Nass-e-Qat’i [Absolute Proof – the Qur’aan] that the primary cause of a calamity descending upon us is our sins and transgressions. Although ostensibly the cause may appear to be something else. This point can be found in some detail in the preface to I’laajul Qaht wal Waba [the Remedy for Droughts and Epidemics].

An accepted principle is curing with the opposite. Thus, the true remedy for every calamity and misfortune is to desist and abstain from it and have one’s past forgiven, which in essence is Taubah and Istighfaar.
