The Fitnah of Wedding Halls
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
To the believing men and women who seek the pleasure of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’ala, we offer this solemn counsel, rooted in the desire to safeguard the Ummah from that which incurs the wrath of Allah Azza Wa Jall.
From the principles of our noble Shariah, it is established that every Muslim is a sacred trust, and it is a collective obligation upon us to enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. This duty extends to the choices we make in our celebrations, particularly on occasions as significant as marriage, which Nabi (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) commanded to be made public.
It is with a heavy heart that we must address the prevailing condition of the venues many Muslims now choose for such events. Based on the clear evidences of the Qur’an and Sunnah, we solemnly advise the community:
- The Grave Sin of Facilitating Evil
The Shariah does not merely prohibit engaging in sin; it explicitly prohibits aiding, assisting, or facilitating it. Allah Tabaaraka Wa Ta’ala says: “…And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression…” (Qur’an 5:2)
By hiring a hall that is known to routinely host mixed gatherings with music, photography of animate beings, and other violations of Islamic Law, a Muslim becomes a financial supporter and a facilitator of that evil environment. Your payment is not merely for bricks and mortar; it is an endorsement of the business model of sin that the venue operates. You become a partner, albeit indirectly, in the burden of the sins that occur there.
- The Prohibition of Resembling the Disbelievers (Tashabbuh) and Promoting Vice
Many of the events described—matric balls, prom dances, birthday parties with immodest revelry—are cultural imports that contradict the modesty and dignity of a Muslim. Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” (Sunan Abi Dawud)
Furthermore, to hold a function that is supposed to be Islamically compliant in a venue known for its promiscuous environment is a contradiction that brings the religion into disrepute and makes a mockery of its teachings.
- The Spiritual Danger of Sinful Environments
These venues are not neutral spaces. They are environments where the remembrance of Shaytaan is dominant through music and free mixing, and where the Boundaries set by Allah Ta’ala are openly transgressed. To willingly place oneself and one’s family in such an atmosphere is to expose one’s Imaan to severe danger. The heart becomes desensitized, and the gravity of sin is diminished. A Muslim is commanded to flee from the places of sin to protect his Faith.
- A Sombre Warning Regarding Income and Sustenance (Rizq)
The income earned by these venues from hosting Haraam events is unequivocally impure (Haraam). Likewise, the money a Muslim spends to hire such a venue for a function that involves Haraam elements is a waste of wealth and an expenditure in disobedience to Allah. Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) warned that when a person consumes Haraam, his Duas are not answered.
- A Call to Righteous Action
Therefore, we implore the community with the utmost solemnity:
- As a community we must collectively nurture and support businesses that fear Allah. We must create a parallel economy of Halaal services, so that no Muslim indulges in a haraam celebration and the disobedience of their Rabb.
- Let us fear the Day when we will be asked about our wealth: where we earned it and where we spent it. Let us not be among those who, in the pursuit of a fleeting worldly spectacle, sold their Hereafter for a cheap price.
May Allah Ta’ala protect us from every path that leads to His displeasure and grant us the wisdom and courage to uphold His Shariah in every aspect of our lives. Aameen.
