Names of the Holy Qur’aan

In view of the many features and distinguished principles of the Qur’aan, and its motivation on human behaviour, discipline and conduct, it is identified by many names. Each name reflects a definite purpose and beauty of the Holy Qur’aan and portrays a distinct quality of it.

The Qur’aan is not merely a book, it is a Revelation, and any reader is awe-struck by its transforming and effective inspiration.

Allaamah Jalaaluddeen As-Suyooti (Rahmatullahi alayh) – one of the keenest scholars of the Holy Qur’aan – has given an exhaustive list of names of the Qur’aan. His famous book, Al-Itqaan which is an encyclopaedia of valuable information of the Qur’aan gives us 55 names or special titles of the Holy Qur’aan. They are:
