اَعُوْذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطٰنِ الرَّجِيْمِ

“I seek refuge in Allah from Shaytaan the Accursed.”

“I seek refuge in Allah” means: I seek refuge in the Rahmah (Mercy ) of Allah Ta’ala and in His protection.

Or it means: I connect myself to the Grace of Allah and to His Mercy.

Shaytaan is called ‘Shaytaan’ either because of him being far from righteous guidance and correctness, or because his has nullified the reasons for his own good and hence he is absolutely worthless.

Rajeem means either accursed, as he is cursed by Allah Ta’ala, or it can mean ‘pelted’ in view of the shayateen (pl. of shaytaan) being pelted with shooting stars repulsing them from the Heavens.

Every evil and rebellious jinn or human or animal is also called ‘shaytaan’ for the reasons mentioned above.
