Understanding of the Deen

  1. It comes in the Hadeeth that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “When Allah Ta’ala wants to grant goodness to a person He gives him understanding of the Deen. I distribute (knowledge), and Allah Ta’ala is the Giver.” (Bukhaari and Muslim)
  2. Imaam Maalik (Rahmatullahi alaih) says: “Learning a lot is not called Ilm (knowledge). Ilm is a celestial light (Noor) which Allah Ta’ala infuses in hearts [by virtue of which a person can recognise right from wrong and truth from falsehood].”
