Marrying a Very Loving and Procreating Girl

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Hazrat Ma’qil Bin Yasaar (Radhiyallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Mary such women who are very loving and very procreating, for I will take pride in you over the other nations.”

(Abu Daawood, Nasaai – Mishkaat)

The two attributes [she is very loving to her husband, and she can bear many children]  have been combined for this reason that if a woman can bear many offspring, however, she shows little love for her husband then the husband will not be inclined towards her.

And if she does have profound love for her husband but is unable to bear many children, then the object [mentioned in the Hadeeth of this Ummah having larger numbers than other nations] will not be achieved.

The object is the abundance of the Ummat of Nabi Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) which can only be realised if more children are born in this Ummat, as is obvious.

If a Muslim female has many children, then the numbers of this Ummat will swell and that is the desired object and purport of Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam).

The question that arises here is that how should a person know whether the girl he intends marrying bears these two attributes or not? A straightforward response is that the general trend in a family or clan can be considered to gauge whether the female of that family or clan bears these attributes or not. If it is witnessed that most of the females in that family bear these qualities, then there is a strong likelihood that the proposed girl of this family also will bear these qualities. The reason for this is that genetic qualities are infused in a clan. Each member of a family and clan bear similar habits and temperaments. Therefore, it is not difficult to ascertain these two qualities in light of a general observation of a family.

Be that as it may, from this Hadeeth we learn that it is Mustahab to make nikaah with a girl who is very loving and procreating. Furthermore, the more children the merrier, as in it is the wish of Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) being fulfilled.

Another possible explanation of the Hadeeth is that where your wives bear these two attributes then maintain your nikaah bond with them and do not allow any friction and separation to come in the away.
