The Call for Haj

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In some reports it is mentioned that Hazrat Ibraheem (Alaihis Salaam) climbed up Mount Abu Qubais and gave the Call for Haj. He placed his fingers in his ears and called out to his right, to his left, to the east and to the west.

His call was: “O People! Your Rabb has built a House and He has made the Haj of this House fardh. Therefore, all of you should comply with this Command of Your Rabb!”

In this report it is also mentioned that Allah Ta’ala conveyed this Call of Ibraheem (Alahis Salaam) to the whole world., and not only to the people living in that age, in fact, to all those who were still to be born till the Day of Qiyaamah. Allah Ta’ala made this Call reach all of them by way of Mu’jizah [miraculously].

And whoever was destined to perform the Haj, they responded to this Call with:

لَبَّيْكَ اَللّٰهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ

That is, they acknowledged their presence.

Hazrat Ibn Abbaas (Radhiyallahu anhu) says: “The basis of the Talbiyah of Haj is this Call of Ibraheem (Alaihis Salaam).”
