Missed Fasts and Fidyah
Reading Time: < 1 minute
- A person did not fast in Ramadhaan for 10 days due to being sick. After Ramadhaan the person was well for 5 days but then passed away. He is accountable for only 5 days of missed fasts, not 10, because he was well for only 5 days in which he could have kept the Qadha.
- Since he did not live for 10 days after Ramadhaan, or he was not well for 10 days, the other 5 days are waived.
- For the 5 days which are not waived it is necessary for him to give a directive of fidyah before dying if he left behind money to pay the fidyah.
- The fidyah is the amount of Sadaqah Fitr (Fitrah) for every missed fast, to be given to the poor.
- If, however, he was well for 10 days after Ramadhaan, then he is accountable for the full 10 days of missed and he should give a directive of 10 days fidyah to be paid from his estate.
