Owning Two Homes and Sadaqah Fitr

  1. A person has two homes. One, he stays in, and the second is vacant, or he has leased it. This second home is in excess of necessity.
  2. If this second home’s value is as much as the Zakaat Nisaab then the owner has to give the Sadaqah Fitr.
  3. It is, furthermore, not permissible to give such a person Zakaat.
  4. However, if this person who owns two homes, is dependent on the income of the second home to sustain him and his family, then the second home also falls in the category of necessities and the Fitrah is not waajib upon him.
  5. Furthermore, in this case (4) he can also take Zakaat. It is permissible to give him Zakaat.
