Wuqoof in Arafaat and Haidh
Reading Time: 1 minute
- In haidh or nifaas a woman cannot read any Aayat of the Qur’aan Majeed with the intention of Tilaawat.
- However, if she wishes to recite of the Qur’aan Majeed an Aayat or Surat which is a Du’aa or Hamd [Praises] of Allah Ta’ala with the intention of Du’aa or Hamd, then she can do so.
- A woman who is in haidh, nifaas or janaabat cannot go in a Masjid, make Tawaaf of the Baitullah and recite the Qur’aan Shareef.
- If she recites the whole Surah Faatihah (Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Aalameen…till Waladh-dhaalleen) as a Du’aa, or she recites any other Du’aa which comes in the Qur’aan Shareef, she recites these with the intention of Du’aa, not with the intention of Tilaawat, then this is permissible. There is no sin in this.
- For example, it is permissible for her to recite with the intention of Du’aa:
رَبَّنَا اٰتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَّفِي الْاٰخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَّقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Or:
رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا
till the end of Surah Baqarah, or any other Du’aa of the Qur’aan. To recite all these with the intention of Du’aa is permissible.
- Therefore, on the Plain of Arafaat when a woman is in haidh or nifaas and she recites Surah Ikhlaas (Qul Huwalllahu Ahad…) with the intention of Zikr, not intending Tilaawat, it is permissible. (Fataawa Raheemiyyah)
- The Aayat:
لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّآ اَنْتَ سُبْحٰنَكَ اِنِّيْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الظّٰلِمِيْنَ
can also be recite with the intention of Zikr [or Istighfaar].
- However, she should not touch the Qur’aanic Du’aas. She can merely recite them verbally.
- For the Wuqoof of Arafaat it is not a condition to be in a clean state [from haidh and nifaas]. If a woman is in a state of haidh or nifaas, her Wuqoof in Arafaat will be proper. (Ahkaam-e-Haj, Mu’allimul Hujjaaj)
(Mukammal Wa Mudallal Masaail-e-Haj Baraae Khawaateen)
