Three Qualities for a Blissful Marriage – Two Indispensable, One Non-Volitional

There are three qualities which if found in a female her husband will never be displeased with her. Shaikh Sa’di (Rahmatullahi alaih) has mentioned these three in a poem of Bostaan:

کند مردِ درویش را بادشا

زنِ خوب وفرماں بر وپارسا

A beautiful, obedient and chaste woman makes a poor man a king.

(In other words, such a man enjoys the pleasures of a king from a woman as described.)

The latter two qualities (obedience to the husband and chastity) are voluntary – they can be inculcated using one’s free will.

If a woman does not have the first quality (beauty), the relationship between the husband and wife will still remain pleasant when the latter two (obedience and chastity) are present.

And if the first quality is found, but she is lacking in the second and third qualities, then such a woman is humiliated in this world and in the Hereafter there is severe punishment for her.

(It comes in the Hadeeth Shareef that the best treasure a man can have is a pious wife who, when he looks at her, he becomes happy; when he tells her to do something, she does it; and when he has to go somewhere then she protects herself and his wealth in his absence.)
