Venerating Ta’ziyahs

Among the acts of innovation (Bid’ah) and evil customs are:

  1. To keep a replica of a coffin, flag, etc. in memory of the death of some saint, particularly used for the commemoration of the martyrdom of Sayyidina Husain (Radhiyallahu anhu). The coffin artefact is known as ta’ziyah. The symbolic flag is known as alam.
  2. To place sweetmeats, sweet dishes, fruit, etc. before such coffins.
  3. To make Salaam to the ta’ziyah.
