Seeking Divine Protection Because of the Hellish Human Make-Up

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Now take a person’s inability in external deeds – outward actions through which he draws benefit to himself and wards away harm from himself. Here too, a person needs Allah Ta’ala’s protection. There are several reasons for this.

One is that it has dawned upon those with insight that this physical body is like ‘Hell’. It has dawned upon them that 19 classes of wardens are sitting at the door of this ‘Hell’.

The nineteen are:

  • The Five External Senses (sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing).
  • The Five Internal Senses (memory, imagination, thought, estimation, reasoning)
  • Shahwat (desire)
  • Ghadhab (anger)
  • The Seven Natural Faculties (attraction, retention, digestion, expulsion, nourishment, growth and reproduction)

Each one of these nineteen is a class on its own, and under each class there are countless sub-classes considering each individual and the number of instances.

This  is akin to the sense of sight. The sense of sight is capable of perceiving countless objects. The sight of each object produces a distinct effect on the heart. This effect pulls the heart from the pinnacle of the spiritual world to the lowest point of the material world.

Once you have understood this, it will be apparent that with the innumerable obstacles and connections there is no salvation for the heart from these darknesses but with the Help and Rescue of Allah Ta’ala.

Since it is established that a person has limitless angles of deficiencies, while there is no limit to the Perfection of the Mercy, Power and Wisdom of  Allah, it is thus proven that Isti’aathah Billah (Seeking Allah’s protection) is waajib all the time.

On the basis of this reason, it devolves upon us to say, A’oothu Billaahi minash shaytaanir rajeem at the beginning of every statement, every action and before every word and moment.
