Why is the Slaughter of an Animal Called Qurbaani?
Reading Time: < 1 minute
Qurbaani is derived from ‘Qurbaan’. In this regard, it is written in Suraah [an Arabic Dictionary]:
“Qurbaan with a dhammah is something by virtue of which a person seeks closeness to Allah Ta’ala. Thus, it is said: ‘I have made a sacrifice for Allah’.”
In view of a person seeking divine closeness through the sacrificial animal, this action [of slaughtering], too, is therefore called Qurbaani.
