Haj – A Touchstone of Your Nature and Character

Haj produces a special effect in cultivating one’s character. (In other words, a person’s Akhlaaq is reformed.) If you find a Haaji contrary to this [that is, his character has not improved], then that is because of some outside factor.

The Ulama Muhaqqiqeen [the Expert Ulama] have written that the Hajar Aswad has a touchstone characteristic. In other words, it has the characteristic of revealing the original character of the person who touches it [makes Istilaam of it].

Some people are not known before making Haj – their nature is hidden. But after Haj it is difficult to remain concealed. One’s original nature and character definitely become exposed.

Thus, one should understand that a person whose condition becomes better after Haj, his/her Haj has been accepted. And whoever’s condition deteriorates after making Haj, then there is fear of his Haj having not been accepted.
